Ten years ago on Sunday, Maj. Troy Gilbert died when his F-16 crashed in Iraq while he was attempting to save US Special Forces who had come under enemy fire. Despite attempts to protect the crash site until US troops could fight their way to it, Gilbert’s body was taken by enemy fighters. It would take a decade before his body returned home.
