The Georgia State Patrol discovered the wreckage of the Navy T-39 Sabreliner about 10 p.m. on Jan. 11. There were no survivors, a Navy spokesman told CNN Radio. There were two Navy personnel, one civilian contractor, and an Air Force member on board the training jet, which was en route to its home base at NAS Pensacola, Fla. The scene of the crash was a mountainous area in Walker County, about 30 miles south of Chattanooga, Tenn. The aircraft had taken off from the airport in Chattanooga at about 11 a.m. and last made radio contact about 20 minutes later.
Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, celebrated the beddown of its full complement of F-35s with a ceremony just weeks after the base received the last of its 54 fighters.
