According to The Gallup Poll’s latest world affairs survey, an increasing number of Americans believe the US is spending too much on its military. More than 40 percent of respondents—the highest number in 15 years—said Washington is spending too much for national defense. However, Gallup believes this upswing could be fallout from dissatisfaction over the war in Iraq, because 46 percent of Americans say they think the country’s military is not as strong as it should be.
U.S. Air Force F-35s and F-22s regularly deploy deep into the Pacific region from Alaska, Utah, and Hawaii. In the future, though, the head of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command would like to see the Air Force permanently station fifth-generation aircraft west of the international date line—closer to China.
