The End Is Near for Wisconsin Reserve Wing: According to several news reports, the Air Force has told Air Force Reserve Command that the 440th Airlift Wing at General Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee will move to North Carolina by September 2007. The wing’s manpower positions go to Pope Air Force Base—soon to become an Army facility—and the C-130 airlifters go elsewhere, per BRAC 2005. The wing will pick up other C-130s along the way. AFRC plans to send an advance team of 13 Reservists next month to begin setting up shop at Pope.
