Four new facilities just opened at McGuire AFB, N.J., and, according to Republican Rep. Jim Saxton, it is the first time he has ever seen four in one day. Under BRAC 2005, McGuire is slated to become a central feature in the megabase merging the Air Force base and Ft. Dix and NAS Lakehurst. Much of the new construction will help McGuire sustain its new C-17 operations. The new facilities comprise a C-17 hangar and maintenance shops and consolidated maintenance operations facility, plus a new airfreight terminal and base supply and improvement to the main gate. Saxton said, “The future holds more promise for McGuire.”
The Air Force’s nascent KC-Z program, aimed at developing a next-generation family of systems for aerial refueling, will look to launch its analysis-of-alternatives study in 2024, years earlier than originally planned.
