Security consultant Thomas P.M. Barnett is a sought-after man. He’s a bestselling author, a former professor of strategy at the Naval War College who has a popular Weblog and makes numerous speaking engagements. Despite the fact he is also a vocal critic of defense planners for failing to adequately anticipate the current Iraq situation, the Pentagon still wants to talk with him. His book “The Pentagon’s New Map” is widely read in military and intelligence circles, and, , according to the Washington Post, DOD asked him to unveil the book’s sequel at a closed door speech Wednesday at the National Defense University.
The Air Force overall reduced its size by 120 aircraft in fiscal year 2021, but kept about the same number of fighter, bomber and attack aircraft, according to data supplied by the service. The F-35 fleet saw the biggest increase while the B-1B bomber fleet saw the largest decline.
