The Space and Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles AFB, Calif., officially dedicated the new Schriever Space Complex on April 24. The new home of SMC is a unique project that involved trading government land in Hawthorne, Calif., for construction of a new, seismically safe and efficient facility. Named for the “father of military space,” the late Gen. Bernard Schriever, the four-building complex will house SMC’s military space system procurement activities as well as on-orbit check out, testing and sustainment, and maintenance activities. Dignitaries at the ceremony included Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.).
