According to the new DOD annual report to Congress on sexual harassment and sexual violence at the service academies, all three schools have “made great progress in establishing robust and effective prevention and response programs.” A survey released earlier this year showed that cadets, in general, felt safer than in the past from sexual harassment. The new 290-page report, which covers the last academic year (from June 2006 through May 2007), addresses reporting procedures and policies implemented since the widely reported problems at the Air Force Academy of several years ago. (Read “Upheaval at the Academy.”) However, it also lists the number of reports of sexual assault, and the school with the highest number (19) is the Air Force Academy, compared to the US Military Academy (16) and Naval Academy (5).
