At Vandy, a Reagan Bust: As we reported Monday, there is now at Vandenberg AFB, Calif., the Ronald W. Reagan Missile Defense Site, comprising four silos, two of which house interceptor missiles as part of the nation’s ballistic missile defense umbrella and two that will serve primarily as test facilities. During a ceremony, Air Force officials also unveiled a bust of the former President, who championed efforts to introduce missile defense.
U.S. Air Force F-35s and F-22s regularly deploy deep into the Pacific region from Alaska, Utah, and Hawaii. In the future, though, the head of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command would like to see the Air Force permanently station fifth-generation aircraft west of the international date line—closer to China.
