Moron AB, Spain, has become a key waypoint for many forces destined for Southwest Asia. At Moron, the 4th Expeditionary Air Mobility Squadron—comprising active, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve Command airmen from three bases, seven units, and 10 specialties—provide 24-hour service for USAF’s C-5 airlifters. On average, they see 70 C-5s each month, handling everything from routine fuel, oil, and liquid nitrogen fill-ups—no easy task on the monstrous airlifter—to minor repairs that may take a few hours to more major maintenance work that may keep the bird on the ground for a longer period.
