Cycling Classic Raises Thousands for Wounded Airmen

AFA’s 2013 Cycling Classic, held June 8-9 in Arlington, Va., raised $18,500 for the association’s Wounded Airmen Program. The money came from the pledges made by participants in the Team Sabre ride on June 9. TEAM MaD Dad, led by David Hallisey, received the Team Sabre Top Fundraiser title for the third consecutive year, according to AFA’s release. Lockheed Martin received the Navy Federal Credit Union Corporate Challenge Team Award for being the top fund-raising team. The Cycling Classic, held in partnership with Arlington Sports, consisted of two days of racing by cyclists of every level and ability. The Air Force won the Armed Forces Cycling Challenge after its riders completed the most laps out of all of the military service teams. Professional men’s and women’s cycling teams from UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling, Jamis-Hagens Berman, and Team TIBCO took top spots in the event’s criterium races (full list of results). Riders also participated in a non-competitive ride on June 9 that passed by the Pentagon and Air Force Memorial.
