Dads 101 Helps First-time Airmen-Fathers Adjust

Airmen at Shaw AFB, S.C., offer a course for their fellow airmen who are first-time, new dads to help them learn how to properly care for a newborn and balance the stresses of work and being a parent. “Dads 101” sessions take place several times a month, reported the Associated Press (via the Idaho Statesman) on Aug. 11. “The guys learn how to change diapers, swaddle the infants. We just give them pointers,” said TSgt. David Bellamy, one of the instructors. He said airmen are adept at packing a deployment bag, “but tell a new dad to get a diaper bag ready and [he is] all thumbs.” Other bases like Luke AFB, Ariz., and JB Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, have also hosted the course.
