A new $24.6 million warehouse has opened at Robins AFB, Ga. The building is the end result of a BRAC 2005 decision to make the base one of four strategic distribution platforms in the Defense Logistics Agency’s worldwide supply network. DLA will use the facility to assemble containers of supplies and ship them to the war effort in Afghanistan and other overseas locations. Robert King, DLA’s distribution director at the base, said there are already commitments for the new facility to prepare 36 air pallets a day and 140 40-foot shipping containers per month. “We’re going to get in there and get to work right away,” said King. Navy Vice Adm. Alan Thompson, DLA director, cut the ribbon on the facility during the opening ceremony on Feb. 25. (Robins report by Wayne Crenshaw)
