Veterans Affairs and Fisher House Foundation officials broke ground this week on a new 21-suite Fisher House on the campus of the Washington, D.C. VA Medical Center, according to a center release. The 16,800-square-foot facility will be the 50th Fisher House, which provide homes to veterans and military personnel and their families during hospitalization stays. Top lawmakers on Capitol Hill announced Dec. 2 that they have reached a deal to extend the continuing resolution currently funding the government into February. Now, the House and Senate will have to scramble to pass the legislation by 11:59 p.m. Dec. 3 to avoid a temporary shutdown.
