The inaugural issue of AFA’s new publication, Wingman Magazine, will hit your mailbox starting in early May, bundled with the Air Force Magazine almanac. AFA created Wingman to complement Air Force Magazine and serve as a window to the men and women of our organization and the broader Air Force community we serve. Wingman will inform and engage with interesting stories on the work of our members, volunteers, chapters, and the staff at our national office in Arlington, Va. It will entertain with compelling articles on notable airmen, spouses and families, veterans, retirees, high school and college cadets, and others. The May issue features a heartfelt article by Caitie Craumer, AFA’s senior manager for airmen and family programs, on the heroic efforts of wounded airmen to heal physically and emotionally from their injuries and why our support for them must never waver. Starting out, we plan to publish Wingman three times a year. Our next issue will appear in September, followed by one in early 2015.
MacDill Air Force Base was evacuated and the gates locked as Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida on Sept. 28. Meanwhile, other Air Force bases in Florida remained open but on a heightened state of alert, with aircraft at several installations being evacuated out of caution.
